The Vango Soul is one of the lightest and fastest-pitching tents we stock at Newquay Camping Shop — a two-pole tunnel design that goes up in around 7 minutes and weighs under 3 kg in either size. It comes in two main capacities: the 2-person Soul 200 and the 3-person Soul 300. Both are available in standard, Deep Blue, and Peridot Green colourways.

Soul 200 vs Soul 300 — At a Glance

What They Have in Common

Both Soul tents share the same low-profile 2-pole tunnel design, Protex 70D flysheet with 3,000mm hydrostatic head, inner-first pitch, Nightfall darkened bedroom, part-mesh inner door, and waterproof PE groundsheet. Both pitch in around 7 minutes and are wind and rain tested to EN ISO 5912. The tunnel shape sits closer to the ground than a dome tent, which makes both Soul sizes better suited to exposed or coastal pitches where wind stability matters.

Vango Soul 200 — Best for solo campers and pairs travelling light

At 2.17 kg and 52 × 15 cm packed, the Soul 200 is the lightest tent in the Soul range and one of the lightest 2-person tents we stock. It's the right choice for a solo camper who wants a bit of extra space, or two people who are prioritising weight and pack size over comfort. At £54.99, it's also the most affordable entry point into the Soul range.

It works particularly well for bike touring, coast path camping along the South West Coast Path, or festival trips where you're carrying everything on your back.

Best for: Solo campers, lightweight pairs, bike touring, coast path camping, festival camping where weight matters.

Vango Soul 300 — Best for couples wanting extra space, or groups of three

The Soul 300 adds a third berth and just 0.69 kg over the 200 — at 2.86 kg it's still impressively light for a 3-person tent. The pack size barely changes (52 × 17 cm vs 52 × 15 cm). At only £5 more than the 200, the 300 is exceptional value if you want the extra room.

For two people doing a weekend break at a Cornish campsite, the 300 gives you noticeably more comfort without a significant weight penalty. For three people sharing, it's the obvious choice.

Best for: Couples wanting comfortable extra space, groups of three, anyone who wants more room without a big weight increase.

Soul vs Tay — Tunnel vs Dome: Which Should You Choose?

Both the Soul and Tay ranges use the same Protex 70D fabric and inner-first pitch system, but they're quite different tents in use.

The Soul is lighter, packs smaller, and pitches faster (7 vs 10 minutes). Its low-profile tunnel design handles wind better, making it the stronger choice for exposed coastal pitches or the South West Coast Path. The trade-off is less headroom and a smaller porch area.

The Tay is heavier but offers more headroom, a Gothic Arch pole for porch stability, Crystal Clear PVC windows, and a more traditional camping layout with a proper living area. It's the better festival tent if you want somewhere to sit out of the rain in the porch.

Our Recommendation for South West Camping

For coastal camping or the South West Coast Path where wind is a factor and weight matters, the Soul 200 or Soul 300 is the better choice. For a couple doing a relaxed weekend at a Cornish campsite who want more living space, the Tay 300 is worth the extra weight.
