Frequently Asked Questions

Is 20 cm really necessary for camping?
If you struggle to sleep on standard camping mats or have back or joint issues, the 20 cm depth makes a significant difference. It's the closest you'll get to a proper mattress in a tent.

How does it compare to the 7.5 cm Shangri-La?
The II 20 is more than twice as thick, significantly warmer, and heavier at 5.7 kg vs 2.9 kg. It's for campers who prioritise sleep comfort above all else and don't mind the extra weight.

Is it suitable for Cornwall camping?
Absolutely — the 20 cm insulating foam provides excellent warmth retention, making it ideal for cooler nights on Cornish campsites even in spring and autumn.

How do I pack it away?
Open the Cyclone valve fully, roll tightly from the far end to expel air, then use the compression strap on the carry bag. Core-cut construction means it packs smaller than you'd expect for a 20 cm mat.

Fantastic! Really good quality and the most comfortable air bed I’ve ever slept on. Only downside of this is that deflating it initially can then be hard work as it is so thick, but if you get someone to hold it still at the other end, you get there. Worth it for the comfort! Great storage bag too!

Zzzzzzzzz….and more zzzzzzz

Superb! Damian at Newquay Camping recommended these mats and it changed our holiday in one night. No more falling off big blow-up mattress! No dodgy backs in the morning! Excellent price from Newquay Camping, best in UK. Looking forward to next trip with these.

Like taking your bed camping

This was as comfortable as my ~£1000 mattress at home. We doubled the "Grande" up with a king-size fitted sheet and it worked brilliantly. It was a little small over the two mats and pinged off the corners a couple of times over two weeks, so we might try a super-king fitted sheet next time, but they stayed together really well and created a great king-size bed. The instructions are a little confusing, but basically you have inflate, deflate, free flow, and seal with a screw cap, I’m guessing the intension is to sleep with the valve fully closed rather than inflate but this wasn’t specified. I didn't find the need to add any extra air, over the self-inflation of the foam. I was concerned about needing to top-up the air, my previous mattress had an integrated pump, so I was concerned about breathing germs into a sealed space (thinking of those horrible pool lilos we all had on holiday when we were young), but as I said I just didn’t need to top-up. If you did need to top it up when deflating there was a really strong “chemical foam” smell released, I know it’s not scientific, but I can’t imagine anything living in the atmosphere inside these mattresses! I recommend when deflating to do it outside with plenty of fresh air and not inside the tent. The bags these come in are quite large, and rolling up a 20cm foam mattress is difficult, I can imagine it would be very hard for weaker people or people with arthritis to get the roll going, but if you can start it, you should be able to easily fit it in the bag. When we got home I put the shop-vac on the port and ****** all the air out while rolling returning them to their “as-delivered” size, and managed to get two mattresses in a single bag. It has a puncture patch and a small tube of glue included just in case you spring a leak but even with the valve wide open they are quite comfortable. No pocket or attachment available for these extras though so I'm sure I'll lose the patch and have a tube of hardened glue in a few years when I need them... I've actually just gaffa taped them to the instruction window on the bag to prevent this in future. Our friends have the Shangri-la 15 and the Comfort 7.5, the size difference of the deflated mats are negligent, the 15 was virtually identical and the 7.5 was slightly smaller but I’d choose the 20cm variant every time.
