TrunkTech vs Double Deluxe: Which Grand Trunk Hammock Is Right for You?
Grand Trunk make some of the best camping hammocks on the market, but with two distinct ranges — the ultralight TrunkTech and the all-in-one Double Deluxe — choosing the right one isn’t always obvious. Both are excellent. They’re just built for different types of camper.

Grand Trunk TrunkTech – Built for the Trail
The TrunkTech range is Grand Trunk’s performance hammock line. Made from proprietary 40D Diamond Ripstop Nylon — a tighter, lighter weave than standard parachute nylon — it packs down to the size of a water bottle and weighs just 425g. That’s nearly half the weight of the Double Deluxe, and significantly smaller when packed.
For backpackers, wild campers, and anyone counting grams on a long-distance route, the TrunkTech is the obvious choice. It’s available in both single and double sizes, comes in bold printed colourways, and despite its ultralight build, still carries up to 226kg — so it’s not fragile.
The one trade-off: straps aren’t included. You’ll need to buy a suspension kit separately, which adds a little to the cost and the setup list. For most backpackers that’s not a deal-breaker — a good set of tree-friendly straps is worth having regardless — but it’s worth factoring in.
Choose TrunkTech if: You’re hiking, backpacking, or wild camping and weight is a real consideration. Also the better choice if you want a solo (single) option.

Grand Trunk Double Deluxe – Everything Included, Ready to Hang
The Double Deluxe is built around a different priority: simplicity. Made from soft, durable 210T 70D parachute nylon, it’s a slightly heavier fabric than the TrunkTech — but it’s exceptionally comfortable and comes with everything you need to hang straight out of the bag. Two 5ft tree-friendly straps and two nautical-grade carabiners are included. No extras required.
The tree-friendly 2” straps are a particularly nice touch. They’re approved for use in nature reserves and protected woodland sites that require wider straps to prevent bark damage — so you’re covered if you’re camping on National Trust land or in managed woodland across the UK.
At 793g it’s not a backpacking hammock, but for car camping, festivals, or garden use, the extra weight is irrelevant. It’s also a great choice if you’re buying as a gift — everything is included and there’s nothing extra to figure out.
Choose Double Deluxe if: You want a no-faff, all-in-one kit for camping with a partner, festival going, or garden use. Also the better choice if you’re buying for someone else.

What About Price?
The Double Deluxe is the more affordable option upfront — and because straps are included, there’s nothing extra to buy. The TrunkTech hammocks are priced a little higher and you’ll need to add straps, but the ultralight performance justifies the cost for serious outdoor use.
Still Not Sure?
A simple rule of thumb: if you’re going to carry it on your back, choose TrunkTech. If you’re driving to the campsite, choose Double Deluxe.
